If You Visit Chennai Airport, Wear A Helmet Because Its Ceiling Fell Down For The 63rd Time!

While Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport was declared the best airport in the 25-40 MPPA(million passengers per annum) category worldwide by the Airports Council International (ACI), Chennai Airport is ‘breaking’ different kind of records, quite literally.

The Chennai Airport broke a new record after its glass ceiling shattered for the 63rd time on Monday!

The airport was inaugurated in 2013 and it has been barely 3 years and it’s already ‘smashing’ records.

Puns aside, nobody was injured in this incident, although collectively, about 13 people have been previously injured.

The country’s highest human rights body – the National Human Rights Commission(NHRC) had already issued notices against the Union Ministry of Civil Aviation and the Airport Authority of India after SK Saamy, a Supreme Court lawyer had filed a petition when the glass ceiling fell for the 61st time.

In the previous incidents, a duty officer from the Airport Authority of India (AAI) and three other private airline employees had been injured after the glass panels fell down.

Justice D Murugesan, an NHRC member said, “It is really surprising that despite 61 incidents of glass fall, the authorities appear to have not paid heed to the safety concerns of people. If the allegations levelled are true, the matter needs to be inquired into.”

Chennai has previously been declared one of the 7 worst airports in the world already, and incidents (and I say incidents because this is the 63RD TIME NOW) like these have just been the cherry on the icing.

A video shared by Thanthi TV shows the damage done, and how it could have injured had any person been walking under the glass panel at that instant.

With the 63rd incident occurring barely a month after the 61st, people are obviously not happy

Well, the last tweet does seem like a good option. When at Chennai airport, wear a helmet. What say?
