Women In Delhi Can Be At Peace Now. Charlie’s Angels Are Coming To Their Rescue Soon.

Here’s what happened:

Delhi Police is preparing the first ever all-women martial arts trained squad

With the exponentially rising number of rape, sexual assault and molestation cases in the Indian capital, the Delhi Police came up with an innovative and efficient way: a team of women police officers trained in self-defense arts.

The police squad will be fully trained in Japanese Shotokan-style karate, by trainer Vishal Jaiswal who wants to make them “fearless and fearsome”

“We won’t tolerate any bad behaviour,” said leader Bharti Wadhwa who will have a team of 40 members under her. The all-women karate unit has been championed by Delhi police chief Bhim Sain Bassi and he is dubbed ‘Charlie Papa’ on police radio by them.

Here’s what we think:

It’s great to witness people embracing innovative ideas

The initiative taken by the Delhi Police to ensure women’s safety in the “rape capital” of India is one of a kind. There were around 2,000 rape cases that were registered with police in Delhi in 2014 against about 1,500 the previous year, an increase of 31.6 percent. So this new strategy hopefully should help women feel safer in the capital.

40 against millions? Nevertheless, It’s a good initiative

But in a city teeming with millions of people, a 40 member team is still a small number. Nevertheless, every drop counts and we hope this initiative inspires other women to join the squad, and police departments across the nation to form similar teams to ensure the safety of our women.

Kudos Delhi Police.
