Someone Pointed Out The Problem With Playing ‘Channa Mereya’ At Shaadis And It Makes Sense!

Let me tell you why I love Twitter. Because in today’s time, we need skeptics who don’t just go with the herd, but ask those really important question that no one’s asking. Like, ever wondered about some of the silliest things that happen in our Indian shaadis? No, I don’t mean the ladkewalas exploiting their status, dowry, the exorbitant money spending or the wastage of food. Everybody talks about those things!

Nope. There’s FINALLY someone who’s questioning the song playlists in every Indian shaadi these days. And one song that’s the biggest fly in the ointment is ‘Channa Mereya‘ from Ae Dil Hai Mushkil.

Twitter user @badtameez_ went on this much needed rant about how a song like Channa Mereya is on every shaadi playlist. And her frustration makes total sense!

Right? RIGHT? I get that Arijit Singh songs are the shizz, and a mehendi sporting Ranbir Kapoor got every single emotion right. And it was picturised in a wedding. But do people realise that the song is about unrequited love?

Most importantly, do these playlist makers realise that playing the song in Indian weddings, most of which might be arranged marriages where the bride and groom might’ve probably had to break up with the people they actually love, is like THE WORST IDEA EVER?

Okay, don’t get offended. I’m saying ‘might’ have had to break up. *Insert disclaimer about arranged marriages being equally if not more awesome than love marriages here.*

You know how listening to Arijit Singh’s songs make you go through a gamut of emotions in that short time span?

Well, desi Twitter went through surprise, shock, denial, agreement and a whole lot more after reading the tweet. And of course, they had some very interesting observations themselves!

If you ask me, it looks like sooooooo many people had similar concerns about songs played in Indian weddings. They were just waiting for this discussion to begin to let it all out!

Seriously, who does that?

Who is the DJ Wale Babu who made this playlist Usko bulaao zara!

What a colossal waste of that Sabyasachi saree if you’re still thinking about that trash ex!

Yeah, that’s not what I wanna be feeling, bruh!

This one has their priorities sorted!

The discussion got even better when people pointed out some other songs that were played at weddings that totally should not be played!

This one’s from the movie Dhadkan, where Shilpa Shetty was marrying Akshay Kumar under parental pressure, but actually in love with Suniel Shetty. So, ummm WTF?

But unless it’s some dank humour thing about arranged marriages…. okay, I’m gonna stop right there!

Oh wait, this one just takes the wedding cake!

I’m really curious to know if the DJ from this wedding is still employed or no?

But I guess some people found Channa Mereya a legit choice for some occasions….

But I think one person figured out the REAL reason why Channa Mereya is played at weddings, and when you see it!

But I think, the most satisfying of the lot was how this seemingly inane discussion gave one person a weapon to rebel against parental pressure!

In the end, I’m just glad someone is…

See, now you geddit? You geddit why I love Twitter so much?
