Man Proposes To GF By Planting A Carrot Inside A Diamond Ring Because Normal Is Boring!

Everyone has their own way of ‘popping the question’ to the love of their life. While some choose to express their love in the presence of friends and family, others come up with really wacky ideas to catch their partner by surprise. But among the many weird marriage proposals we have witnessed, this one definitely tops the list. Because this man proposed to his girlfriend by planting a carrot inside a ring. Yep, we were left scratching our heads in confusion after hearing of this.

Both John Neville and his wife Danielle Squires of Canada have been busy taking care of their two small children in the past few years. But they knew they would tie the knot someday soon. “I always knew we would, but neither of us was in any rush,” Neville, 36, said.

When Squires was pregnant with their son four years ago, Neville decided to propose to her after staying together for six years. He secretly bought a diamond engagement ring but never really propose to her, waiting for just the right time, reports NDTV.

He wanted to do something that no one had ever attempted.

“I’m a procrastinator like you wouldn’t believe. I kept twiddling my thumbs.”

But one fine day, after hearing about a woman who found her lost ring in a carrot while she was gardening, he decided to grow a carrot inside the diamond ring he bought for Squires. Since Neville was a stay-at-home dad, he was confident enough that he would be able to do it. “It was a bit of a process. I put a lot effort into it to make sure it was a successful engagement proposal,” he added.

He first filled a five-gallon plastic bucket with soil then placed the ring in the centre of the bucket and buried the ring in it. He used a pencil to make a narrow hole in the soil right through the centre of the ring, hoping to encourage the carrot to grow from the centre.

“I gingerly put a few granules of soil there and then three or four seeds on top.”

After waiting patiently for 90 days, it was time for the big reveal. Unaware if his gamble worked or not, he asked his wife and son to help him harvest the carrots.

He told his wife to pull the one in the centre which was supposed to have the ring. And luckily, his gamble worked. Neville then went down on his knees and popped the question to his wife. And like every happy ending, it was a ‘YES’ for Neville and his efforts.

The couple is yet to settle on a wedding date. Isn’t this the cutest proposal ever?
