Meet Rajbir Singh, The Cabbie Who Saved A 92-YO Woman From Getting Duped Of ₹17 Lakh

Nowadays we are all so busy in our own lives that we rarely find it in our hearts to take the time to help strangers. People in big cities especially prefer to mind their own business. But a cab driver from California went beyond duty to help a 92-year-old woman from getting scammed for around $25,000 (Rs 17 Lakh).

Rajbir Singh, the owner of Roseville Cab, picked up the elderly woman from her residence in Sun City, Roseville, two weeks ago. During the ride, the woman told him that she was visiting the bank to withdraw $25,000, reports NDTV.

She explained to him that the money was needed to settle her debt with the IRS (Internal Revenue Service). IRS is an American government agency that is responsible for the collection of taxes.

“This sounded very suspicious to Raj so he suggested to the woman, this may be a scam,” the police department wrote in a Facebook post. Singh asked the woman to reconsider her decision a number of times but all in vain. He also asked the woman to call the number which apparently belonged to the IRS officer.

“We called this number again and I asked the man, ‘Do you know this lady?’ He said no. I knew something was wrong,” Singh told CNN.

The man immediately hung up on Singh and blocked his number after he called him several times. The woman still refused to believe Singh, so he decided to take her to the police for help.

“He waited for a while but finally was able to speak with an officer who then spoke with the woman waiting in the cab. Sure enough, it was a scam,” wrote the police department.

Great citizen awardFrom time to time a good story comes across our desk. Here’s a recent example…Raj Singh own…

After speaking to the cops, the woman was convinced she was getting scammed for Rs 17 lakh by the fake IRS officer and decided to take back her decision of paying the scammer. Singh dropped her back home safely.

“We love this story because several times throughout, Raj could have just taken his customer to her stop and not worried about her wellbeing. He took time from his day and had the great forethought to bring the almost-victim to the police station for an official response,” said the City of Roseville Police Department.

The world clearly needs more people like Rajbir Sigh. Kudos to him for selflessly helping a stranger!
