It is here folks! Today is the day when Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman presents the Union Budget for 2019. The last time all of us were this excited about something related to finance and taxes was back in February when the Interim budget was presented. Since the elections just took place, the expectations from India’s first full-time female FM are definitely sky high. So, what did netizens think of her maiden budget? Read on to find out.
First and foremost, her decision to carry the documents wrapped in red cloth with the national emblem like a ‘Bahi Khata’ (traditional accounts ledger) instead of the usual leather briefcase got a thumbs up from everyone. It is generally used by business families and considered very auspicious.
Setting a new precedent Union Finance Minister #NirmalaSitharaman on July 5 was seen hugging the budget documents wrapped in a red cloth, the traditional '#bahikhaata' way, instead of the leather briefcase that until now her predecessors walked around with.

Common people like us are only interested in tax cuts, exemptions and subsidies. So, we looked for those announcements in particular.

Unfortunately though, apart from saying that the Aadhaar card and PAN card are interchangeable while filing returns, there were no special benefits for the middle class in the budget speech. This gave birth to a spate of hilarious memes because Twitter can see the humour in any situation.
