Britney Spears’s ‘Toxic’ Is Actually Inspired By Tunes From Kamal Haasan’s ‘Ek Duuje Ke Liye’

American singer and songwriter Britney Spears has been credited for reviving the pop culture and is often referred to as the ‘Princess of Pop’. However, the acclaimed artist has also had a pretty fluctuating career graph and 2003 was a phase when critiques anticipated her fall. But that’s when she dropped her fourth album ‘In the Zone’.

The album had notes from pop, hip hop, electropop, and other music. And among all, the second single from the album named the song ‘Toxic’ was an all-time hit. So much so that almost every Spears lover knew the lyrics by heart.

But little did people know that the classic is not completely original and that Bhangra and Hindi music had a huge influence in making the album a cult favorite. This fact was recently revealed by Song Psych, a show hosted by musician Dev Lemon.

In the show, it was made clear that the music in the song is actually an amalgamation of two Hindi songs from the ’80s. Apparently, the producer picked up sections of the soundtrack from the song ‘Tere Mere Beech Mein’ from the movie ‘Ek Duuje Ke Liye’ starring Kamal Haasan and Rati Agnihotri and combined them to make the iconic song.

Interestingly, Britney also sings microtones in the song that are also a fundamental part of Indian music, claims the video by SongPsych.

Here’s the iconic song by Britney Spears.

And this is the OG Bollywood song we’re referring to.

Well, if you Google about this RN, you can find several articles that will testify that this claim is true. Ever since the song was released, Britney didn’t see a dry spell ever again in her career. Were you aware of this fact?
