British Women Are Seeking Danish Sperm Donors To Make ‘Viking Babies’, Here’s Why

Several single British women have been flying to Denmark every year, seeking a sperm donor for themselves. Now Danish men are world famous for their good looks. And Danish sperm may well help you make what are termed as ‘Viking babies’, possibly with blue eyes, blond locks and a charming smile. However, that is not the sole reason why British women seek Danish sperm.

Going by the facts and figures, at least 13,500 fertility treatments in the UK use donated sperm or eggs every year, reported Mirror. But ever since the new set of rules regarding a child’s right to find out his paternity by tracing the sperm donor once he turns 18 came into force in 2005, the number of British sperm donors dropped drastically.

UK is currently facing a severe sperm donor crisis.

Following the change in rules, just 480 men volunteered for sperm donation in the UK in 2010. In order to revive the industry, a sperm bank was set up in 2015 in Birmingham. The bank was shut in a couple of years after only nine men showed up to become a sperm donor.

The CEO of the European Sperm Bank, near Chancery Lane, says she wants British men to sign up for becoming a sperm donor as many British women would love to have a local sperm. “At our clinics, we meet many women who tell us having a UK sperm donor is their preferred option. In Denmark men are proud of being donors and donation is part of our culture.”

“We aim to remove the stigma surrounding sperm donation in the UK and let British men know why being a sperm donor is so important. And if the Brits don’t man up, we can’t give women what they want,” she added.

In contrast to the law in UK, sperm donors in Denmark can stay anonymous all their life. An open sperm donor from Copenhagen says, “Somehow it’s great to know that even if I don’t have kids in the future, there will be part of me out there in the world.”

Owing to the drastically decreasing number of sperm donors in the country, will the UK take down a child’s right to trace his paternity after he/she turns an adult? What’s your take on the matter?
