We have all heard about ships disappearing in water or airplanes losing their way midair. However, have you ever heard of a bridge vanishing? If not, here is something you would love to give a read.
According to NDTV, a 75-foot structure that made up the central section of a dismantled bridge over the Umba river, in Russia’s Murmansk region has suddenly disappeared leaving the locals in shock. The structure which is nowhere to be found weighed around 56 tonnes (56,000 kgs) and the reports of its mysterious disappearance began to circulate on VK – a Russian social media platform, in the month of May.
Initial photos that came out on the 16th of May showed parts of the broken bridge lying in the water.
However, just 10 days later further pictures went viral on social media and these had no trace of the broken parts of the bridge! What adds to the mystery is that nothing could be spotted in the water, which seemed to be absolutely clean. The platform that revealed the pictures added that there was no debris found at the bottom of the river either!
“It was taken away by unknowns. At the bottom, too, there are no large debris. Natural phenomena could not bring down the bridge.”
If the locals are to believed, no natural phenomenon is responsible for the structure’s eclipse. The residents are speculating that the bridge was brought down and then stolen by metal thieves. Its disappearance has been reported to Kirovsk Police and a criminal investigation is already underway. The police stated that the thieves may have intended to sell the metal scrap but the process in which they carried out the theft is yet to be uncovered.
