Brand Lightens Suhana Khan’s Skin Tone In Poster, People Online Call Out Colourism

It is no news that film, fashion and makeup industries are obsessed with fair skin. It is our society’s outlook in general. But you would think that with the advocacy and debate surrounding fairness creams and discrimination against dark-skinned people, our society would begin to become more sensitive and inclusive of all skin colours. But that is not the case.

As you might know, Suhana Khan (daughter of Shahrukh Khan), has a dusky skin tone. Both her parents are dusky too.

But in a poster of a popular makeup brand, her skin appears to be really fair. This is the poster and the brand is Maybelline:

We would be fooling ourselves if we think that this is Suhana Khan’s actual skin tone. It is far from it. Whitening her skin in this poster is particularly pointless because this is an advertisement for liquid lipstick.

As a result, people online rightly called out the advertisement after a user on Reddit shared the picture on r/BollyBlindsNGossip. Here’s how they reacted:
