FM Blames “Millennial Mindset” For Auto Crisis, Desi Twitter Responds With Sarcasm!

The automobile industry which provides employment to more than 3.5 crore people in the country is facing a massive slowdown. Sales of both passenger and commercial vehicles are down and dealers/companies are being affected. Apart from two-wheelers and four-wheelers, truck and tractor sales have also seen a sharp decline. According to The Economic Times, Finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman said,

“Automobile sector, in particular, has been affected by several things. These include BS6 (Bharat Stage 6) movement, the registration fee issue that has been deferred till June and the mindset of millennials, who are now preferring not to commit EMIs to buy automobiles but prefer to use Ola or Uber or take the metro.”

But desi Twitter was not impressed with her reasoning. Pretty soon netizens started sarcastically responding with the hashtag #BoycottMillennials. Here are the tweets that blame any and every crisis to millennial behaviour.

NDTV reports that the FM has announced measures to boost automobile sales and curb job losses in the sector. The vehicle registration fee hike has been postponed and government departments have been asked to replace old cars with new ones. Running of BS-IV vehicles purchased up to March 31, 2020, has also been allowed.

However, she has not reduced the 28% GST rate as requested by the industry. We hope that the rate of lay-offs and unemployment decreases in the coming months.
