Parents Make Son Work At Scooter Shop In Punjab After He Spends ₹16 Lakh Playing PUBG

It is rightly said that excess of anything is bad because the obsession and addiction might make us do certain things that can harm us, in this case, harm our pockets.

A teenager from Punjab spent nearly Rs 16 lakh from his parents’ bank accounts while playing PUBG, reports India Today.

The 17-year-old boy from Khagar would take his parents’ mobile phones saying he needed them to study but instead, would rigorously play PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds (PUBG) on them. And his addiction to the popular game led him to make several in-app purchases and spend a whopping amount of money. The boy would buy artillery, passes for tournaments, and virtual ammunitions etc from his parents’ bank account linked to his mom’s mobile phone, reported The Tribune. Within a month, he had spent money from three bank accounts to upgrade his profile on the gaming application.

It’s only when his father checked the bank statements that he realised about the great gamble. “I had saved the money for my medical needs and my son’s future. During the lockdown, I was staying at the place of my posting, while my son was staying with my wife here.”

“He used her mobile phone to make all transactions and would delete the message regarding amount debited from the account.”

The boy’s father further added that his son has also used up money from his mother’s Provident Fund, reports Hindustan Times. The dad said that the boy had access to all the account details as he used to make online payments for his mother’s kitty party.

“He spent around Rs 2 lakh of her mother’s PF amount which she transferred to the bank account recently. I had kept some amount in his personal account and a majority of the amount was in my non-salaried savings account,” his dad added.

“All of it was gone in no time. We never knew that he was using our accounts for playing a game. Even the police didn’t help us as my son had deliberately spent it.”

To his parents’ surprise, the boy would keep shuffling their money from one bank to another to avoid getting caught.

“After we received details from the bank, I found that on several occasions, he shuffled amount from one bank to another to avoid nil balance.”

“He was using his mother’s phone for quite some time and she was not much vigilant to notice this,” he explained. Well, losing their hard-earned money in a game was something the parents’ never would have thought of. Hence, they decided to teach their son a lesson. The father made his son work at a scooter repair shop to make him realise his mistake.

“I just can’t let him sit idle at home and cannot give him a mobile phone even for studying. He is working at a scooter repair shop so that he realises how hard it is to earn money. I am hopeless now as the money was saved for my son’s future,” he exclaimed.

Well, a punishment was much needed. Hope the boy understands the value of money now.
