For all our talk and sloganeering about respecting mothers, we sure love to shame them for breastfeeding. Women have been told to cover up or go somewhere private in order to feed their own children. However, that hasn’t stopped them from attempting to destigmatise breastfeeding in various ways. And now a London-based firm has joined the fight with the help of giant boobs.
According to the Huffington Post, gigantic boobs of various shapes, sizes and colour, appeared in London on Mother’s Day. Tania Boler, CEO of Elvie, who was behind the campaign, said,
“The #FreetheFeed campaign is an invitation to everyone to stand with all those women that have felt shamed or confined when breastfeeding or pumping.”
She further added that,
“We know the giant boobs will raise a few eyebrows, but we want to make sure no one overlooks the way that this stigma has been used to repress women.”
Netizens who came cross these boobs happily supported the campaign as they believed that there shouldn’t be any stigma around breastfeeding.
“Let’s just take a quick detour up here. I want to get a photo.” Son: “Of what? Is there a giant boob statue or something?” “Actually, yes”. #FreeTheFeed pic.twitter.com/76rtJa7lPQ

I agree with the message, but that’s how you attract giant babies and we do not want that. #freethefeed https://t.co/dWFCjfTtVN

So proud to be part of this incredibly powerful campaign with @elvie this Mother’s Day across East London. #FreeTheFeed was an invitation to everyone to stand with all women who have felt shamed whilst breastfeeding in public. #FreeFromShame #FreeFromStigma pic.twitter.com/NnBIphv9Mj

Feeling like a massive tit.
Also, I’m loving the message behind this. Breastfeeding in public is perfectly normal, should be celebrated and if you think otherwise you’re a dick 🙌🏻🙌🏻#freethefeed https://t.co/ptqOs3ZjeC pic.twitter.com/TP64Hs0g8W— #blacklivesmatter (@luhbreton) April 1, 2019
Breastfeeding is as natural as eating, drinking and breathing, period. If anybody’s first reaction to it (in 2019!) is an iteration of “can you cover up, ma’am?”, then they should really think about their priorities. And do you think the #FreeTheFeed campaign can be done in India? Let us know in the comments.
