10 Phases Of A Breakup Explained Perfectly Through Bollywood Actors

Pretty much all of us who’ve been through a break up will relate to

1) How much it sucks

2) How many different kinds of terrible emotions you go through till you finally decide to move on.

Since Bollywood does a pretty great job with anything related to love, here is the accurate list of phases every person who has been dumped goes through, corresponding to a Bollywood character doing the same. Who better than drama and overacting to make people understand the pain of a break-up, right?

1. Phase 1- Denial: Karisma Kapoor in Dil Toh Pagal Hai

You remember when Karisma was in total denial about the fact that SRK actually didn’t love her, but loved Madhuri? And then you felt so bad for her because gurl, move out of the obvious friendzone. Yeah, the first phase is pretty much like that. It’s hard to accept the relationship is over. So you think you’re okay.

2. Phase 2- Anger: Ranbir Kapoor in Rockstar

When you finally realize that your relationship is actually over, like really, you’re pissed off. At everything. For no reason. You’re pissed off with your ex, their parents, their dog, and yourself too.

3. Phase 3- Depression: Salman Khan in Tere Naam

When you’re so angry but you don’t know why, that’s pretty much the onset of intense sadness- with songs like the Tere Naam title track playing in your head the whole time. And it’s not fun.

4. Phase 4- Bargaining: Imran Khan in Break Ke Baad

You re-consider working on your relationship, promising your ex that you’ll change so and so/do so and so/don’t do so and so because you’re tired of missing them. Like Imran, you wouldn’t mind flying down to Australia and living with them despite them not wanting it. But hey, it’s just a phase. So what if it makes you look like a creep?

5. Phase 5- Rebound Brain: Deepika Padukone in Cocktail

You’re totes tired of being sad, and you’ve been rejected enough times by your ex to not take a drastic step. You go all ‘fuck you world’ on everyone, and you make deliberate attempts to do shit and find a rebound love. What else do you think clubs and alcohol and people are made for?

6. Phase 6- Regret: Priyanka Chopra in Fashion

You realize that you did some major shit last night after getting way too drunk on something you absolutely hated, and you probably even sent your ex a few drunk texts in the process. Waking up the next morning with everything coming back to you is the WORST. Even worse than that hangover you’re nursing.

7. Phase 7- Straightening out your life: Ranbir Kapoor in Yeh Jawani Hai Deewani

“I’m never doing that drunk scene again, man” is your motto, and you promise to live by it so much that you might as well just get it tattooed on your head. You start to introspect your life choices. You delete your exes number. Your pictures with them. You block their facebook. You block your facebook. You’re just done. You just want to be normal again.

8. Phase 8- Acceptance: Salmaan Khan in Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam

Just as it wasn’t easy for Salman to let go of Ash (in the movie, dudes), it isn’t easy for you to let go either. But then, a few nights of absolute shame and regret totally knocked some sense into you. So, with a heavy heart, you mentally decide to say goodbye. And you feel a little lighter.

9. Phase 9- Finding yourself: Kangana Ranaut in Queen

Now that you’ve consciously decided to be by yourself, you start doing things just like every other single does. And the weirdest part is- you actually start to enjoy them. The hangovers seem less regrettable now.

10. Phase 10- Back to being single: Ranveer Singh in Ladies vs Ricky Bahl

Soon enough, you’re back in form. You’re glad you’re the same person you missed a while back. You’ve completely settled and comfortable with being single, and you’re all ‘fuck this shit, being single is the best.’

Breaking up sucks. But it teaches you more about yourself than anything else. Be glad, you survivor, you!
