15-YO Delhi Student Held After Cyber Cell Lodged FIR In ‘Bois Locker Room’ Case

On May 3, screenshots of a Delhi based private chat group named “Bois Locker Room” surfaced online and created outrage as its members were found to be casually discussing sexual violence and sharing photos of underage girls.

Subsequently, cyber expert Shubham Singh got involved and Delhi Police Cyber Cell lodged an FIR.

The Indian Express quoted DCP Anyesh Roy saying,

“After we came to know, we registered an FIR under Sections 465 (forgery), 471 (using as genuine a forged document or electronic record), 469 (forgery for purpose of harming reputation), 509 (word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman) and Sections 67 (publishing or transmitting obscene material in electronic form) and 67A (publishing or transmitting of material containing sexually explicit act in electronic form) of the IT Act. We are probing the matter and collecting all technical evidence.”

Furthermore, authorities of a South Delhi school filed a complaint at Saket police station and the Delhi Commission For Women (DCW) issued notices to Instagram and the cops, reports Hindustan Times.

News18 quoted an officer saying, “In their complaint, school authorities requested police to investigate the incident. Police, using technical surveillance, got the registered number of the 15-year-old, who had allegedly shared a photograph on the group. His phone was switched off. After finding his address, he was apprehended on Monday evening.”

The Times of India reports that the private group had 21 members from 3-4 different schools and some from colleges. Another officer was quoted saying,

“We interviewed the minor and he told us they were not morphing pictures of their classmates but of random public accounts on Instagram. He said he did not know many people in the group as they were from other schools. After screenshots of the alleged group went viral, the group was deleted and another was created as ‘lockerroom 2.0’ in which girls were also added. We have also come across some conversations on Snapchat.”

The first step in the legal process has been taken and we hope that the rest follows in the days to come.
