Snowfall can turn any setting into a winter wonderland. From the Niagara falls freezing to “snowfall” in Delhi, the pictures look straight out of heaven. But if ever Hell had to have snowfall, how would it look like?
The answer lies in Siberia!
Three cities in the coal-mining region in Siberia – Prokopyevsk, Kiselyovsk, and Leninsk-Kuznetsky, have turned into a ghostly dark snowscape after being covered with black snow.
The blame has been pointed at coal plants which have failed to filter its fumes.
The director of one of the plants told sources that the shield meant to prevent coal powder from escaping has failed, resulting in the soot-coloured snow.
“It’s harder to find white snow than black snow during the winter,” said a member of the non-profit environmental group.
Local residents are panic struck and blame the coal plants for their lack of regulation.
“No cleansing systems, all the waste, dust and dirt, coal lay in the area. Our children and us are breathing it. It’s just a nightmare,” said a local.
Residents have been posting several pictures and videos of the streets being covered in black snow on social media and it is alarming.

The unusual photos of the black snow might seem surprising, just like how pics of “snowfall” in Delhi wowed us. But this is the environment calling out for help!
