BJP MLA Wants Agra To Be Renamed As ‘Agravan’, Writes To Yogi Adityanath

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s decision of renaming ‘Allahabad’ had pinched every Indian right in the heart. On 16th October 2018, the city which marks the confluence of Ganga, Yamuna, and Saraswati, was given the new name of ‘Prayagraj’.

Though we firmly believe that the decision murdered the soul of the iconic city, we have no choice but to accept it. Not only Allahabad but even Faizabad was changed to ‘Ayodhya’.

And now, if a BJP MLA is to be considered, there are some more name changes to follow.

Jagan Prasad Garg, a politician of the Bharatiya Janta Party, has requested Yogi Adityanath to change the name of his city Agra to ‘Agravan’. According to Hindustan Times, the 66-year-old MLA stated that ‘Agra’ has no specific meaning.

Citing the reason behind his plea, Jagan Prasad added that Agra is a city which consists of numerous ‘vans’ (forests) and ‘Agarwals’ (the followers of King Agrasen).

“The region was initially known as Agravan and finds such a mention in the Mahabharat. But in the course of time, the city was named as Akbarabad. Later, it became ‘Agra’, which has no specific meaning and thus its name should be revived to Agravan.”

Jagan Prasad is all set to hold a meeting with the Chief Minister and get the new name approved. He also mentioned that the city is dominated by the Agarwals while the strength of the Vaish community is just about 10 Lakh.

The BJP government has taken up the issue of name changing with the belief that several cities in the country were named by Muslim rulers, which needs to be put in place.
