Nandamuri Balakrishna, the popular Actor and member of Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly courted controversy in a recent interview. Balakrishna reportedly said that he isn’t aware who AR Rahman is.

Balakrishna said, “I don’t know who AR Rahman is. He won an Oscar and I don’t even know who he is. He gives a hit once in a decade.”
Balakrishna’s further statements were about Bharat Ratna, India’s highest civilian award. He allegedly said the Bharat Ratna is equal to his father NTR’s toenail.
When asked about our country’s most prestigious awards, he said, “I feel that Bharat Ratna is equal to my father’s [NTR] toenail. No award can compensate for the contribution of my family to Tollywood. So, only the awards should feel bad. Not my family or my father.”
Incidentally, it was AR Rahman himself who once composed the background score of Balakrishna’s 1993-film, Nippu Ravva. However, fans of the music maestro stood up for the legend and defended their love for Rahman. Here’s how they reacted to Balakrishna’s statements.
