Social media–I don’t think I need to explain–is an intertwined network of connections you wouldn’t want to have in real life. Bli-me-y if you think that’s it; It can and it has proven more than just irksome for many a fella who, subsequently, grew out of the easy-on-the eye, pretentious life of likes and shares.
Hey, no qualms if you like to flaunt an #Instafamous lifestyle, but I must warn you, it comes with a cost. If you think I’m exaggerating, wait till you hear what tragedy it can bring along.
According to an India Today report, a Bengaluru-based real estate broker, identified as K Suryanarayana, landed in the eye of a storm after pictures of him performing a pooja went viral.
Looks harmless? Well, how about you look again, and a little harder this time!
If your eyes haven’t told your brains yet, it was no ordinary pooja. Reports suggest that Suryanarayana offered Goddess Varalakshmi wads of notes (amounting to rupees 88 lakhs) and pots of gold!
Reportedly, he had withdrawn Rs 88 lakhs from the bank for the pooja and used 1.23 kg gold to decorate the room where the pooja took place.
Needless to say, people are quite baffled at the display of wealth and have raised questions about his earnings and income tax returns.
However, he maintains that it is all his hard-earned money that he offered. In fact, he also expressed his regrets about posting the pictures in the first place. He told Bangalore Mirror,
“I can’t tell you how much I regret doing it. I will never upload such photos again in my life.
People are saying I have black money but the truth is I have valid documents for each and every rupee I have. The money is the fruit of my labour.”
Suryanarayana even added that this year, he has paid taxes worth Rs 13 lakh, claiming to have assets worth Rs 15 crore.
Now, where was I about social media again?
