While we mostly feel pity and compassion for beggers on the streets of India, often those feelings can als be replaced by frustration and anger. Because some of these beggars can really set you off by pestering you, even after you’ve politely and respectfully refused to give them alms.
In fact, they’ve known to be extra persistent when they spot foreign tourists. The beggars think they’re likely to be successful at extracting a decent sum from foreigners, as they tend to get more sensitive to their plight.
However, this firang YouTuber in India was not that easily fooled. And when his stubborness clashed with the persistence of a crazy beggar on the streets of Mumbai one afternoon, it made for a hilarious video!
His YouTube channel is called ‘Bald and Bankrupt’. He has posted several videos of his sojourn across India. From his ample videos and excellent Hindi diction, one can safely assume he has visited the country multiple times.
And this time, he ended up having a close encounter of the chipkoo kind with a beggar on the streets of South Mumbai.
The video begins with the beggar, sporting an orange vest over his shirt and an orange bandana, starting to ask for Rs 200 from Mr Bald (that’s what he’s called in the comments).
But once told that Mr Bald does not have 200 bucks, he starts asking for Rs 100. And I say ‘starts’, because for the next 15-20 minutes or so, the beggar follows Mr Bald through the streets of Mumbai, persistently saying just one thing…
Mr Bald, hats off to him, remains unnervingly calm through this all. Does the beggar finally get his “sau rupaya”? Watch this and find out!
