‘Bata Isn’t Indian?’ Ask Desis As Shoe Brand Gets Its 1st Ever Indian Global CEO

For the first time in 126 years, an Indian has been appointed as the global CEO for the popular shoe brand Bata. According to Indian Express, Sandeep Kataria, who joined Bata India in 2017 as CEO and has now replaced Alexis Nasard who was serving as the global CEO for the past 5 years.

However, as the news spread, people online have been having a hard time believing that Bata is in fact a Swiss company! With its headquarters in Lausanne, Switzerland, Bata Shoes was founded in 1984 by Tomas Bata, a Czech entrepreneur whose family had been cobblers for generations in a town in then Austria-Hungary (today in the Czech Republic).

People online responded with the funniest of memes and jokes to this! Many mentioned other brands that weren’t Indian and it blew people’s minds!
