Even years after graduating from school, most of us remember our teachers as if we met them yesterday! There’s no doubt when I say that our teachers have shaped us into being who we are today, making us forever indebted to them.
However, one man wanted to thank his teacher for helping him during a rough patch in his life in the most incredible way! According to The Indian Express, IDFC First bank MD and CEO, V Vaidyanathan, gifted his former maths teacher 1 lakh equity shares worth Rs 30 lakhs as a ‘thank you’ for lending him Rs 500 so he could travel for an interview in his early years.
In the past, Mr Vaidyanathan had qualified for an engineering course at Birla Institute of Technology, Mesra. However, he did not have the money to travel for the interview. It was then when his maths teacher, Gurdial Saini, lent him Rs 500 for his travel.
Over the years, Mr Vaidyanathan kept climbing up the success ladder but didn’t forget his teacher’s kind gesture. He tried several times to get in touch with him but couldn’t, until now!
A Facebook post by an acquaintance of Mr Vaidyanathan narrates this heartwarming story. It reads:
“Vaidya searched for him to repay but Mr.Saini had moved jobs. Many years later, with the help of a former colleague, he got to know that Mr.Saini is in Agra. He called him up and expressed his gratitude for the timely help.”
Earlier this month, Mr Vaidyanathan’s bank made a regulatory filing to the stock exchanges and a transfer of the equity shares was made to the teacher, reports Times Now. The official notice addressed to the teacher read:
“Pursuant to Regulation 30 of the SEBI Listing Regulations read with Regulation 7(2) and 6(2) of the SEBI Insider Trading Regulations, we wish to inform you that V. Vaidyanathan has transferred 1,00,000 fully paid-up equity shares of IDFC FIRST Bank Limited held by him in his personal capacity to his former school teacher, Gurdial Saroop Saini, as a gift, without any consideration as a token of gratitude for his teacher’s help to him at an earlier stage in his life.”
