Wondering who is his wifey? Meet Tahira Kashyap, a journalism professor, published author, guest lecturer, and soon-to-be director. And you thought only Ayushamann was the multi-talented one.

The tale of how Ayushmann met his now-wife Tahira, is one for the hopeless romantics. Belonging to Chandigarh, both attended the same tuition and when adolescent love bloomed into lifetime companionship, they didn’t even realise.

In a column published in 2012 in India Today, Tahira cited how they fell in love. And, it’s filmy as hell.

“Our story goes back 12 years. I don’t want to sound vintage but dating back in those days in Chandigarh was a different experience or perhaps we were both just extremely slow and shy. Both of us attended the same Physics tuition class when we were in the 12th standard. It was a batch of around 60 students and when I first met Ayushmann I thought his name was Abhishek.”

Tahira and her friend, both, had a crush on Ayushmann but pretended to ignore him.

“I later discovered that he also had a crush on me; I think I was popular with the boys because I was tall and had an arrogant air about me, because I was always on my guard.”

But they didn’t talk for an entire year. But thank God for a filmi twist that they met again.

“One day my dad told me and my mom that we had to go to his friends place for dinner. He told us that this friend was an astrologer so I quickly called over my friend and told her all about the dinner.

She planned on asking about her grades in their competitive entrance exams. But,

“When we arrived at the dinner guess who we found there? None other than Ayushmann, who happened to be my father’s friend’s son.”

They began and then fell in love. They acted in plays together, studied together and have been with each other through thick and thin.

That’s not all, Tahira’s watching experience of Vicky Donor was surreal in her own words and she was ecstatic when she heard their song on the big screen.

“Never, in my wildest dreams, did I imagine that a song I had been listening to for the past 9 years would become such a phenomenon (Paani Da from Vicky Donor).”

After the success of his film, he moved Mumbai and Tahira stayed in Chandigarh. They had a long-distance marriage. But she moved to Mumbai in 2015.

They are blessed with two kids, a baby boy Virajveer and a baby girl Varushka.

That’s not it, Ayushmann in an interview with Mid Day was all praises for his life partner.

“When I got married, I had no money. Tahira has been doing better than me professionally for the longest time. She was gutsy enough to marry a man just for love and have faith in his talent. She is a rockstar; she was a professor, had her own PR firm in Chandigarh. She was also the programming head of a radio station in Punjab. She supported me in every possible way.

I was a struggling actor, which is often a gamble. But there was never any ego between us. When there’s love, there’s no scope for ego. Most men in India aren’t secure enough to be comfortable with such an arrangement. It comes with the family. It depends on how your father treats your mother. But a man, no matter where he comes from, could always trigger a change. If it’s a patriarchal family, the dynamics are different. In my case, Tahira became the daughter in a household that had none.”

Last year in November, they celebrated eight years of marriage.

And, are handing out marriage goals to all.

Love like theirs, they light the spark in my bonfire hearts. ?
