Public masturbation is disgusting. Now, when I say it like that, it’s pretty simple to understand. However, most men find it extremely difficult to get that into their heads. And that’s because they can’t comprehend why the act of jerking off to someone in the open would be considered indecent.
Recently in Kolkata, a man was caught masturbating in a public vehicle and he continued to do so despite knowing he was being filmed. Then there was the case that was reported by a DU student. However, women have started to fight back this menace of sexual harassment one step at a time. And this Karachi girl’s action is a prime example of that.
Shahtaj Qadir posted her experience of being masturbated at by an auto driver when she was returning home on Facebook. She said that,
“Thanks to unavailability of Uber and Careem, had to take auto to home and this auto wala made this journey memorable by masturbating openly with constant stares at my breasts.”
However, Shahtaj was not one to be harassed and stay quiet about it. No, instead she beat him up big time.
Long story short, I asked him to stop the auto near police station and beat the shit out of him which I’m sure he’ll remember for months!”
We live in the age of smartphones and video cameras and it’s quite ridiculous how scum like these think that they can simply get away after doing something so disgusting.
Considering how the sight of someone masturbating can throw anyone off, Shahtaj provided some important tips to nab the harasser red-handed.
Since harrassment is the new normal now, here are some tips for my girls which might help them in such situations.
1) Don’t panic when you see a man near you masturbating, I know it’s ugly but try to keep yourself calm.
2) Try to make a video or capture a photo of him. Note the number plate if possible.
3) Ask him politely to stop the vehicle near any busy or crowded area (parking lot, shopping mall, marts, bus stops), police station is preferable.
4) Now the pig is under your control, beat him, kick him or try to gather the crowd near you but don’t let him go easily!

It’s evident that Shahtaj has a great presence of mind and was able to keep her cool while witnessing such a vile act. However, in most cases women are afraid to look the perpetrator in the eye. And that’s exactly what needs to change. Women should feel empowered and men should feel ashamed after masturbating in the public. Not the other way round. So, maybe it’s time to take Shahtaj’s example and dole out some well needed justice.
