Woman Lies On Her CV & Lands ₹1.3 Cr/Year Job, Gets Jailed After Company Finds Out

Have you ever thought about lying in your resume? I, for one, have could never, ever think about doing it because
A) My desi upbringing kept reminding me, “jhoot bolne se paap lagta hai”
B) I get reminded how Joey from ‘Friends’, a completely hopeless dancer, was asked to teach a class how to dance because it was falsely mentioned on his CV and then quite embarrassingly, he made a run for his life.

Many of us don’t lie to save ourselves from the embarrassment of getting caught. However, one woman had no fear and things took a pretty great turn for her, at first.

According to a report by India Today, an Australia-based woman named Veronica wrote a bunch of lies on her CV and ultimately landed herself a government job that paid her Rs 1.3 Crores annually!

Veronica had fabricated her CV with fake educational background and work experience. She even attached fake pay-slips and mentioned fake references.

Her fake CV managed to fetch her the position of Chief Information Officer with an annual salary of 270,000 Australian Dollars (Rs 1.3 Cr approx) annually and 33,000 Australian Dollars (Rs 16 lakhs approx) monthly, reports CNN.

However, she did not just lie on her CV, but she also used a super model’s picture as her profile photo on LinkedIn. She also offered her brother a job despite him lacking the skills and qualifications for the role.

The company authorities got suspicious after Veronica’s mental health deteriorated after her joining work. Reports suggested that she has bipolar disorder. Upon investigation, her truth was found out.

Veronica has been charged with “deception, dishonestly dealing with documents and abuse of public office in September 2017” and has been sentenced to 25-months in jail.

Instead of risking your career (and your life!) by lying on a resume, one can just work on increasing their skill-set and become deserving of the desired job!
