If you have watched films that have won an Oscar, you would realise that they are impactful, powerful and extraordinary. An Oscar-worthy film is one that is a cinematic masterpiece and a blend of exceptional storytelling, compelling characters, and breathtaking visuals. It should be a benchmark of excellent filmmaking. Think about Oscar-winning movies like The Shape Of Water, Everything Everywhere All At Once, Parasite and Moonlight – what brilliant films they were!
Does Atlee’s ‘Jawan’ have the same impact as the above-mentioned films? I don’t think so. It is an enjoyable film, a watchable film, a ‘massy’ film, but is it worthy of going to the Oscars? I really don’t think so. And so do many others.

I’m saying this because Atlee, who is the director of ‘Jawan’, recently expressed that his film should definitely go to the Oscars. When he was asked if he is eyeing for the Oscars, Atlee said:
“Of course, even Jawan should go, if everything falls in place. I think every effort, everybody, every director, every technician who is working in cinema, their eyes are on the Golden Globes, Oscars, National Awards, every award. So, definitely, yeah, I would love to take Jawan to the Oscars. Let’s see. I think Khan sir will watch and read this interview. I will also ask him over a call ‘Sir, should we take this film to the Oscars?” quoted Hindustan Times.
People online have hilarious reactions to this statement of his. It’s safe to say that the internet collectively said ‘NO’. Have a look:
I don't like being negative abt things but please… Jawan is an average film. There are some good moments in it, but overall it's a mix of many South Indian movies – it's not original at all. Even the action sequences aren't creative like in RRR.
