11 Life Lessons Asterix and Tintin Comics Taught Us In Their Wisdom

In today’s age of Superman and X-Men and their blockbuster movies, we sometimes forget the time in our childhood when we used to enjoy simpler comics.

The comics didn’t have convoluted storylines and actually made us laugh out loud literally. The wit and humor were rich and the artwork was amazing.

Asterix and Tintin comics were one of these, and we loved them from the first page. And we enjoyed them to the end, and no matter how many times we read them, we still have so much to learn from them.

1. Cunning and intelligence always triumph might and strength

Brain always triumphs the brawn. With a little help of magic potion of course!

2. Real estate swindling will destroy the environment

Remember Mansion of the Gods? How Caeser thought that making apartments would be development and that is what progress looks like?

Remember how birds and animals fled the forest?

3. You should always think carefully before believing in superstitious claims

In Asterix and the Soothsayer, we learned to not put complete trust in shady people, especially when it is based on fear and magical claims.

4. Greed gets you nowhere. There is so much to life than just money

In Obelix and Co. we see how greed takes the whole village by storm and in the end, they realize that money doesn’t matter when you don’t have the friends you love to share it with.

5. After a hard and long day, celebrate. Never not celebrate. Celebrate even smallest of happy occasions

At the end of the day, keep your differences aside and celebrate the day with your friends.

If only we sang, ate and danced more at night, the world would be a better place.

6. Laugh as hard as you can. When you can.

As often you can. Even at yourself.

7. You always stand for the weak, no matter how huge the enemy is, or how small you are

The weak are walked over all the time. Always stand up for them. If you won’t, who will?

8. Never lose your cool in a difficult situation

Waterfalls, imminent death, Tintin has battled it all – always with a calm head. He barely shows emotions, even when he thought Snowy to be dead!

9. Be incorruptible, even in the face of everyone around you being corrupt

Your integrity is never for sale.

10. It doesn’t matter if you are thin, fat or short or tall. It matters if you are a good person at heart

Look at people for the person they are. Captain Haddock is a foul-mouthed, bad-tempered drunk. But he is Tintin’s best friend. Tintin doesn’t judge by finicky standards. Nor should we.

11. Do not stop pursuing the truth, however strong your enemies are

Always fight for the right, even when your opponents know magic or are supremely powerful.

12. Size of a fight does not depend on the size of a man

Tintin could always take the biggest of the bad guys and beat them. Not because he was stronger than them. But because he never felt intimidated. And why would he? He was doing the right thing.

Time to get a hot cup of chocolate and get into the bed with your favorite Asterix comic book.

That’s the life.
