Cops Gift Bike To Assam Girl Who Sold Veggies By Going Door-To-Door On Her Bicycle

Cops across India are punishing lockdown violators and collecting fines but are also coming forward to help stray animals, senior citizens, and the underprivileged. According to India Today, Dibrugarh Police recently came to the aid of Janmoni Gogoi, a 20-year-old from Saphakati Ghogora Gaon of Bogibeel area.

After completing Class 12 from Dibrugarh Government Girls’ Higher Secondary School, the only child had to put her education on hold and sell vegetables door-to-door on her bicycle to make ends meet. So the police department gifted her a bike.

Hindustan Times quoted Deputy Superintendent of Police Pallavi Mazumder saying,

“Her self-respect prevented her from taking monetary help. So we came up with the idea of gifting her a two-wheeler so that she can carry her vegetables more comfortably and in larger quantities.”

Janmoni herself revealed,

“My father has been ailing for the past 18 years. He cannot walk. My mother sells vegetables in Borbaruah market. I have been helping her for two years. I earn a meager amount by selling vegetables. Sometimes I have to return home without earning anything. The two-wheeler will ease my problem of ferrying vegetables far. I am now determined to work harder.”

Twitter was touched by the kindness of the cops.
