“I Was Not Allowed To Enter My Own Studio.” Arnab Speaks About An Incident At Times Now.

Arnab Goswami has been one of the most prominent faces of Indian journalism in recent years. Millions of Indians religiously tuned into ‘Times Now’ each day to watch Arnab vehemently debate against politicians, academics and even comedians. However last year, the journalist decided to resign from his position in favour of setting up his own venture, later titled ‘Republic‘.

In a recent interview, Arnab opened up about his reasons for quitting, saying that he wished to create an unbiased media house which could raise the questions which others tended to avoid.

He was not worried about the backlash and wanted to, as they say, ‘get his hands dirty’.

He spoke about a specific instance at ‘Times Now’ in order to provide an example for how tough questions were being avoided.

Soon after, on the 16th of November (2 days before he left the channel) he was not allowed inside his own studio. The studio that he built.

It’s truly saddening that our media tends to hit the panic button as soon as any sort of controversial questions are raised. The media of all things must be unbiased, transparent and fearless. I would like to leave you with a quote by Helen Thomas, to cement my opinion.

“We don’t go into journalism to be popular. It is our job to seek the truth and put constant pressure on our leaders until we get answers.”

Without asking the tough questions that put pressure on our leaders, what kind of truth are we really expecting to find?
