A mother is undoubtedly the most important part of a child’s life. But we often forget the role a father plays in shaping a child. With their ability to do everything for their child, he is generally the hero children look up to.

So it is only understandable that you break down into tears when you come to know that your father is not just yours, but a real hero for the country too.

A young woman lieutenant of the Indian Army had that exact reaction when she found out that an outpost at Kyapho in the Tawang sector of Arunachal Pradesh, where she was posted, is named ‘Ashish Top’.

When the woman read it, she got curious and asked where it got the name from. She broke down when she got to know that it was named after her father, Ashish Das.

As reported by The Times Of India, Ashish Das is a retired colonel of the Assam Regiment. He said,

“I was at home when I received a call from the commanding officer of the unit manning Ashish Top. He introduced himself and described how my daughter had broken down on coming to know that the post was named after me.”

He further added that he had told his family about his unit’s exploits in the sector in 1986 but his daughter wasn’t even born then. He said,

“Even I came to know about this post being named after me only in 2003, 17 years after we beat back troops of China’s People’s Liberation Army (PLA) and occupied the post at 14,000 feet.”

Ashish Das was the then captain of the regiment and he was posted at the Sumdorong Chu Valley. He was part of the operation called ‘Operation Falcon’ which was launched to seize control of the Line of Actual Control (LAC) being infiltrated by the Chinese People’s Liberation Army (PLA).

Parents swell with pride when their children do something remotely successful and they boast about it to the world. But when they themselves are such heroes, children can only hope to be as good as them someday.
