Arjun Kapoor Calls Himself An “Underdog” & Reacts To Controversy Using The Bhagavad Gita

Ever since he made his debut with Ishaqzaade in 2012, Arjun Kapoor has bagged several roles and won even more hearts. Even after a few ups and downs in his cinematic career, he is soon to return with a bang in his next India’s Most Wanted which stirred quite a controversy after it’s teaser launch.

In the movie, Arjun Kapoor plays the role of Prabhat Kapoor who leads an undercover operation to capture a terrorist without the use of gun power.

The film’s teaser showed a man offering prayers while quoting Krishna from the Bhagavad Gita.

“I’m not killing people. I’m sending their souls into new bodies. These are not my words but it is Lord Shri Krishna in The Gita,” the voice says in the teaser.

People have been pouring a lot of hate ever since, claiming that the movie uses quotes from the Gita to justify terrorist attacks.

Arjun Kapoor was quick enough to respond to these claims. In an interview, he called the movie “pro India” and said that not Hindus, or Muslims, but Indians have made this movie.

“It is interesting for people sitting at home to type things like this. Are they putting their lives on risk? People use religion to make others feel a certain way. We are depicting a film that is pro-India. Give the film a chance before giving importance to such matters.”

He goes on to add, “We are putting our country and humanity before anything. This film is about people who don’t think about religion, caste and creed. I do not want to discuss that and give it importance.”

One would think that the son of a hot-shot producer like Boney Kapoor will consider himself to be the be-all and end-all of Bollywood. But Arjun Kapoor seems like quite the opposite.

Calling himself an “underdog”, the star feels he has a lot to learn and experience in the industry.

“Some choices do go wrong but you live and learn. I want to do good work. I am happy when fans believe in me. But without taking advantage of the situation, I have always considered myself as an underdog.”

Can’t wait to see him in this new avatar!
