Arbaaz Khan Slams Cancel Culture, Asks Why Same Rules Don’t Apply To Common People

Actor-filmmaker Arbaaz Khan recently slammed social media cancel culture and talked about how the rules that apply to celebrities don’t apply to common people. On the other hand, Tanishaa Mukerjee spoke about nepotism and called it a “rubbish argument”.

First up, Arbaaz Khan lashed out against cancel culture saying that there is no accountability on social media, HT reports. He asked rhetorically, “Can a celeb abuse someone? Try doing it.”

On being asked about celebrities getting trolled online, he said, “If you’re a celeb, and you park in a no-parking zone, the trolling that you’re going to get, the repercussions you’re going to get… It’ll be like ‘how irresponsible’, ‘he’s a role model’, they’ll drop him from an ad, they’ll drop him from a movie, when actually, parking in a no-parking area is just a 250 fine probably. They say celebrities get away with a lot of things, social media is one place where celebrities can’t get away with anything.”

He continued, “You cannot be caught with a cigarette in your hand, you cannot be driving like this, you cannot be parking like this, you cannot be eating like this, you cannot be talking like this, you cannot have a small brawl and push somebody… It’s like, you lost your ads, you lost your movies, you lost your respectability, you lost everything. If you do that to a celeb, you also have to pull it down to the common man. A faceless guy on social media can troll you, abuse you, your family, can say whatever the hell he wants. He can talk about your personal life, your professional life, everything. But so what? He can. But you try saying it. There is a disparity here. Social media works on some strange level.”

On the other hand, Tanishaa Mukerjee called herself the “number one poster child of nepotism failing” after listing her illustrious family members- mother Tanuja, sister Kajol, cousin Rani Mukerji, and brother-in-law Ajay Devgn, HT reports.

She dismissed nepotism by saying, “Nepotism is a rubbish argument. It’s just a fancy word that people are using out of the context a lot of times. In today’s industry, if you are not working hard, you are not being seen…A person, who is not a star kid and makes it big in the industry, they will talk about how difficult it was to get their first break. But they don’t have to deal with the pre-conceived notion that the whole world had about a star kid–yeh toh Dharmendra ka beta, isko toh Dharam paaji k tarah hona hai or yeh toh Tanuja ki beti hai, isko toh Tanuja ki tarah hona hai (he is Dharmendra’s son, he should be like him or she is Tanuja’s daughter, she should be like her).”

“Main toh nepotism ki number 1 example honi chahiye thi (I should have been the number one example of nepotism). I have got Rani (Mukerji) on one side, Ajay (Devgn) on one side, my mother is Tanuja, my sister is Kajol and I also have Ayan (cousin, director) in the family. I am number one poster child of nepotism failing. (laughs) All those people screaming nepotism, look at me and then talk,” she concluded.
