But what the job also must come with, is loads and loads of time spent in the office. Come of think of it, that’s what jobs have become these days, haven’t they? An unhealthy amount of time spent sitting at our desks, working away on computers, and barely getting any exercise. And you know what a seriously risk-heavy lifestyle that is when a giant like Apple decides to do something about it.

In an interview with Bloomberg’s David Rubenstein, Apple CEO Tim Cook revealed how all employees at Apple Park have an option to shift between sitting and standing desks.

The corporate headquarters of Apple Inc, located in Cupertino, California, resembles a flying saucer. And just like one, not much is knows about the interiors of Apple Park. However, Cook revealed that the chairs of the employees have been deliberately made to feel a little uncomfortable, so as to motivate them to get up more often.

“We have given all of our employees, 100%, standing desks. If you can stand for a while, then sit, and so on and so forth, it’s much better for your lifestyle.”

This isn’t the first time the Apple CEO has expressed his dislike for a sedentary working environment. In another interview, he spoke about how he believes that “Sitting is the new cancer”.

“If I sit for too long, it (my watch) will actually tap me on the wrist to remind me to get up and move, because a lot of doctors think sitting is the new cancer.”

However, Apple’s initiative of equipping its employees with standing desks isn’t new, or not the only healthy element in their work environment.

The Apple Park also boasts of a fitness centre spanning 100,000 sq. ft. which the employees can use, in addition to the acres of sprawling campus that can be an absolute delight to walk around in.

Many workplaces are embracing this new trend of fitness initiatives in the office to allow its employees to keep health risks in check: Treadmills instead of desks, gyms in the office, cycling within the huge campus, healthy lunch variants and so on. And it’s time these facilities got taken advantage of!
