Neil Armstrong and Edwin Aldrin created history when they became the first two men on the moon.
Mankind made a giant leap towards progress that day when we touched the surface of the moon and, of course, we have never looked back since then.
But, what would have happened if the Apollo 11 mission had failed and the renowned astronauts had to stay back on the moon, never to return? Turns out, NASA had equipped themselves if in case such a situation were to occur.
Presidential speechwriter, William ‘Bill’ Saffire wrote this goosebump-inducing speech and sent it to Harry Robbins Haldeman, a political aide and businessman was the White House Chief of Staff to the then President, Richard Nixon. Thankfully it was never needed.
I’m so glad this speech wasn’t given and all the astronauts returned home safe and sound.
But if they hadn’t isn’t this the most moving speech that was thankfully, ‘NEVER’ given?
