Anushka Sharma Pens Post Slamming Gavaskar, Fans Point Out His Remark Was Misheard

Recently, Indian cricketer-turned-commentator Sunil Gavaskar faced severe backlash online for allegedly making a distasteful comment on Virat Kohli’s performance in the lastest RCB versus Kings XI Punjab IPL match. People claimed that while criticising Virat’s game, Gavaskar said, “Inhone lockdown me toh bas Anushka ki gendon ki practice ki hai.”

This was considered to be a derogatory and misogynistic remark on Anushka Sharma’s pregnancy. As his alleged statement made headlines, Anushka Sharma too took to Instagram to address the issue. In an IG ‘story’, the actress wrote:

“That, Mr Gavaskar, your message is distasteful is a fact but I would love for you to explain why you thought of making such a sweeping statement on a wife accusing her of her husband’s game?”

“It’s 2020 and things still don’t change for me. When will I stop getting dragged into cricket and stop being used to pass sweeping statements?”, she added.

However, a person online took to Twitter to write how Sunil Gavaskar’s commentary has been misheard.

Another person shared a video of his commentary wherein he can be heard saying:

“Sirf Anushka ki hi bowling practice ki hai inhone.”

Here’s a video of the incident Gavaskar referred to in his commentary wherein Virat and Anushka can be seen playing a round of cricket. Anushka can be seen batting while Virat bowls at her.

What do you think of Anushka’s stance? Shouldn’t all commentators refrain from commenting on a cricketer’s personal life and spouse on-field? Tell us!
