Cinema Owners and Exhibitors Association of India (COEAI) recently announced that Karan Johar’s ‘Ae Dil Hai Mushkil’ will not be released in single screen theatres across Maharashtra, Gujrat, Karnataka and Goa, because of Pakistani actor Fawad Khan.
Anurag Kashyap criticised the decision and spoke about it on Twitter.
Anurag Kashyap in a series of Tweets condemned the decision of banning ‘ADHM’.
The World must learn from us.. We solve all our problems by blaming it on movies and banning it.. #ADHM . With you on this @karanjohar
— Anurag Kashyap (@anuragkashyap72) October 15, 2016
He asked Prime Minister Narendra Modi why he hasn’t apologised for his visit to Pakistan last year.Â
@narendramodi Sir you haven't yet said sorry for your trip to meet the Pakistani PM.. It was dec 25th. Same time KJo was shooting ADHM? Why?
— Anurag Kashyap (@anuragkashyap72) October 16, 2016
Acknowledging the sacrifice of the soldiers on the border, he asked, why only does Bollywood need to face the consequences of the ban?Â
@narendramodi why is it that we have to face it while you can be silent??
— Anurag Kashyap (@anuragkashyap72) October 16, 2016
@narendramodi and you actually diverted your trip on our tax money, while the film shot then was on money on which someone here pays interest
— Anurag Kashyap (@anuragkashyap72) October 16, 2016
@narendramodi I am just trying to understand the situation because I am actually dumb and I don't get it. Sorry if you feel offended..
— Anurag Kashyap (@anuragkashyap72) October 16, 2016
Btw Bharat Mata ki Jai Sir @narendramodi
— Anurag Kashyap (@anuragkashyap72) October 16, 2016
There was massive outrage on Twitter because of his tweets. People said that Anurag Kashyap has ‘crossed a line’ with his comments.
PM did NOT go to Pak on personal trip
Banning ADHM is NOT his personal decision
NOT watching ADHM is our personal choice@anuragkashyap72 pic.twitter.com/ZxMRqglEL1

@anuragkashyap72 Have you written any note for banning your films directly to Sonia G or Rahul G or Manmohan S directly in past few yrs?
— Bad Company. (@RowdyTalks) October 16, 2016
Banning ADHM is NOT his personal decision
Some also stood by Anurag’s side and supported Karan Johar and said that Anurag Kashyap is, in fact, asking the ‘real’ questions.
@anuragkashyap72 @narendramodi
I agree , why @karanjohar should bear all the burden ,
I agree— बॉस मारने वाले बाबा (@hariompainter) October 16, 2016
Trust @anuragkashyap72 to ask the difficult questions everyone is thinking about, but won’t say anything.
— Sucharita Tyagi (@Su4ita) October 16, 2016
After people started questioning Kashyap’s patriotism, he said that being a devoted citizen of the country, it was his right to ask questions and that is exactly what he is doing. Â
Just to make it clear, I complain because I expect my government to protect us, I question the PM because I have every right to..
— Anurag Kashyap (@anuragkashyap72) October 16, 2016
He shushed all haters who were criticising him for speaking his mind. He asked them to prove their love for the country in an honourable way. Not by shouting.Â
And anyone who questions my love for the country by shouting , must prove there love by representing the country either on the border ..
— Anurag Kashyap (@anuragkashyap72) October 16, 2016
Or prove your love by representing the country in a honourable way.. Not by shouting here..
— Anurag Kashyap (@anuragkashyap72) October 16, 2016
He says that he doesn’t want to live in a world where he has to be scared to keep his point and simply nod along to impress people.
I refuse to live in the fear created by blind fanatics that you cannot have a conversation with your PM or question him or expect from him
— Anurag Kashyap (@anuragkashyap72) October 16, 2016
I would rather ask my questions directly to the PM than trying to impress him by fake nationalism of banning "what puts you in news"
— Anurag Kashyap (@anuragkashyap72) October 16, 2016
He also replied to the media saying that they are not in any way ‘drunk tweets’. This is indeed what he has been feeling for a long time.
And media should stop trying to call me because you are wasting your time, because this all that I have to say and they were not drunk tweets
— Anurag Kashyap (@anuragkashyap72) October 16, 2016
That’s classic Anurag Kashyap. Saying what he believes in.
What do you think, does he have a point? Feel free to let us know in the comments below.
