Anshula Kant’s Appointment As World Bank’s MD & First Female CFO Is Making Us So Proud!

Everywhere we look there are examples of talented and gritty women whose life stories are nothing short of amazing. From 16-year-old climate activist Greta Thunberg to legendary boxer and world #1 Mary Kom, they are an inspiration for everyone to take on the world with confidence. They teach us that with hard work, even the most difficult of tasks is possible. And now, another Indian woman has made us all proud at the international level.

Meet Anshula Kant, currently serving as SBI’s Managing Director. On Friday, she was named the next Managing Director and Chief Financial Officer of the World Bank Group! Isn’t that fantastic? Moreover, she’s the first female to hold the CFO position.

The Hindu quoted World Bank Group president David Malpass saying,

“Anshula brings more than 35 years of expertise in finance, banking, and innovative use of technology through her work as CFO of the State Bank of India. She’s excelled at a diverse array of leadership challenges including risk, treasury, funding, regulatory compliance and operations. I look forward to welcoming her to our management team as we work to increase our effectiveness in supporting good development outcomes.”

The Indian Express reports that she hails from Roorkee and went on to study economics at Lady Shriram College and then at Delhi School of Economics in 1981.

She started her career at SBI in the year 1983 as a probationary officer. Over the years, through her dedication and exemplary work, she steadily climbed up the corporate ladder. In the past, she has served as Chief General Manager of Mumbai SBI and CEO of its Singapore unit.
