Ankit Saxena’s Parents To Open A Trust To Help Interfaith Couples And Give Love A Chance

We were all gutted when we heard the news of Ankit Saxena’s death on the 1st of February. The 23-year-old photographer was stabbed in west Delhi, allegedly by the family members of the girl he was in love with. He was kicked and punched repeatedly on the street and was finally stabbed and his throat was slit. His gruesome death brought out the ugly side of Indian society- caste, creed and so called honour is above love.

In a gesture to maintain peace, his parents had earlier taken an initiative to feed people from all communities and religious backdrops on his 24th birth anniversary.

In another bid to bridge the gap between communities and to provide the help that Ankit and his girlfriend didn’t get, his parents plan to start Ankit Saxena Trust.

In a report by The Hindu, Ankit’s father said that he wishes to keep his memory alive by “starting something connected with the youth.” He has been in talks with an NGO which his helping him put the idea into action.

Talking about the project, Ankit’s father said,

“The Trust will essentially work towards ‘Aman’ [peace and harmony]. It will also help those who want to marry out of their religion or caste.”

Ankit’s father is saying that there is still no word from the CM of Delhi, Arvind Kejriwal. They still don’t know who their lawyer is for the case.

Ankit’s father even said that he wishes to revive his YouTube channel, ‘Awaara Boy’ but he still doesn’t know how to. He added that he will seek help from Ankit’s friends to do this.

The girl, Shehezadi is in the safety of police custody. She was counselled for a few days because the authorities thought she may try taking her own life as her lover was murdered, her family is in jail and the rest of her relatives refused to take her in.

Ankit’s parents only demand is that they culprits be hanged for their crime.

Our heart goes out to Ankit’s family, his death was a tragedy for us all. While we hope justice is served and soon, we commend his parents for forgoing their grief and helping others so that no one has to go through this brutality again.
