Ananya Panday who made her Bollywood debut with ‘Student Of The Year 2’ recently opened up about being slim-shamed and made uncomfortable by people around her and how such comments hurt her.
She revealed, “I wouldn’t say I was bullied or anything, but there was some teasing because I was very thin in school, as I still am. So they would make fun of my ‘toothpick legs’ and calling me ‘chicken legs’ or stuff like that. Also, I was very hairy in school and used to have hair on my arms when I was young, so they used to make fun of that and all. Used to call me ‘hunchback’ because I had a slouch. But I feel like I always got through it because of my friends. That’s where I derived my positivity and self-confidence.”
As per a report in News18, she also said, “People used to say I look like a boy, flat screen. At that time it did hurt because those are the years where you are forming your self-confidence. You are learning to love yourself and someone else is pulling you down then you really start doubting yourself.”
She added, “Now, I am reaching a point where I am focusing on accepting myself. If that is sorted and that is my foundation then nothing can hurt me since I am at peace with myself and I love myself. I am not saying it has happened. It is an ongoing process but I feel this realization is more important than what anyone else says.”
She continued, “So many people connect with you. A 10-year-old girl comes up to you and says, ‘I wanna be like you when I grow up’ and my heart just melts, you know. So like that just obviously overpowers everything for me, like the negativity, the trolling, everything. Just look at the love and support that there is.”
“Giving back love, giving back positivity, just creating a kind environment, a supportive environment for everyone is what I was aiming for. And I feel like this happens to so many young kids out there, you know. It happens to almost everyone, so i just wanted them to not feel like they’re alone,” she concluded.
