Earlier, people lauded British High Commissioner to India, Alex Ellis, when he ventured out on the streets of Mumbai and relished a Mumbai-special sandwich and chili ice cream.
Now, ambassador of Lithuania to India Diana Mickeviciene is being liked by people online for her dedication towards fulfilling her duty without hindrance.

In a video that has taken over Twitter, Diana is seen talking to the media in Hindi. As surprising as it sounds, her Hindi-speaking skills are definitely above average.
Wearing a traditional salwar kameez with a dupatta, Diana conveys to the media, “Mujhey serious baaton ke baarey me toh mushkil hai baat karna. Maine Sanskrit 2 saal padhai ki but mainey padhai reading aur understanding, translation ke baarey me tha, speaking k baarey me nhi.”
(It is a bit difficult for me to talk about serious matters. But, I am able to speak. I learned Sanskrit for two years. But, that is a language of scriptures in our University. I learned to read, write and translate, but not to speak.)
“Mai thoda Hindi baat kar sakti hu. Maine 2-3 baar Hindi seekhi aur bhool gai. Toh ab nai baar India aai aur serious intention hai Hindi padhai me focus karna aur 6 mahine k baad shayad pura interview Hindi me de dungi,” she laughs.
(I am able to speak a little bit of Hindi. I learned Hindi 2-3 times but forgot. This time I have come to India and my serious intention is to focus on learning Hindi. Maybe after six months, I will be able to give a full interview in Hindi.)

Interestingly, the Lithuanian language is very similar to Sanskrit.
The language of Lithuania is similar to Sanskrit. Many root words of sanskrit are still spoken there.https://t.co/FkPgAu8fvi

It would be surprising to many but Latvian & Lithuanian languages are much closer to Samskrit than European.

Lithuanians and Latvians consider themselves to be the original inhabitants from the foothills of Himalayas. There are 100s of Sanskrit words in their languages.

For ambassadors, it’s of great importance to learn multiple languages, especially of the country wherein they are representing their land. Diana’s efforts are worth all the praise.
