As an industry, Bollywood is fickle, to say the least. Yes, there is talent and in abundance, but in this age of digitisation, technicalities triumph over everything. Let me rephrase that; it is safe to assume that synthesisers have replaced singers over the time. And the little scope that was left, by cheesy remakes of classics in the wrap of rap!
However, amidst all, there still is a voice that soothes the soul of the listener. If you haven’t guessed it yet, it is Alka Yagnik and her melodious voice that brings me solace like nothing else. Having reigned over two decades in Bollywood, Alka has not paved the way for budding talent but honed the skills of many aspirants. Honestly, I can’t think of one song, sung by Alka, that doesn’t give me goosebumps.
