People Debate Whether The Deteriorating Air Quality During Diwali Is Worth Celebrating

After braving the coronavirus pandemic, Indians finally celebrated Diwali with open hearts and less fear. While it’s the festival of lights, crackers are extensively used across India which not apart from creating noise and air pollution also makes the surroundings look dirty with all that kachra on the streets.

And despite banning the bursting of firecrackers, Delhi was the most polluted city in the world as its air quality on Diwali was recorded in the ‘very poor’ category with an air quality index (AQI) at around 312 yesterday, reported Zee News.

The excessive smoke and deteriorated air quality got people thinking, “Is this pollution worth the celebration?”

People on Reddit extensively discussed this topic after a user posted a video of the smoke and smog in his vicinity on Diwali eve.

Is this pollution worth the celebration? from india

Some weren’t in the favour of bursting firecrackers that are causing irreplaceable harm to the environment.

A handful said that just one day of celebration won’t make a difference. In fact, we should look at banning those activities that polluted the air throughout the year.

You see pollution, I see the celebration.

Money wastage too.

The pollution level evidently skyrockets during the Diwali festival but this year, the AQI was better in the national capital as compared to previous year’s Diwali. So, basically, people are making better choices for the environment.
