Air travel can be a stressful experience for some people. And they can’t really be blamed since it does involve some serious risks. Literally speaking, you are trapped in a metal box that’s basically suspended thousands of feet above the ground. The numerous movies made on mid-air aeroplane calamities, have till now given us a pretty good idea about the number of things that could go wrong.

For passengers aboard an Air India aircraft flying from Amritsar to Delhi on the 19th of this month, their worst nightmares about air travel came true.

According to Times Of India, the Boeing 787 Dreamliner (VT-ANI) ran into severe turbulence for 10 to 15 minutes during climb phase from 8,000 feet to 21,000 feet. So much so, that a window panel came off and fell on a passenger.

Three passengers were injured in what is being described as a ‘freak kind of severe turbulence’.

Videos of an air hostess trying to fix the fallen window back, and comforting the passenger who got hit by it, has been going viral. Check out the video here:

Horrifying right?!

In addition to the lady who got injured by the fallen window, another passenger hit his head on the overhead cabin due to the turbulence.

Times of India reports some sources as having said:

“The turbulence on AI 462 was such that the head of a seated passenger, who possibly did not have his seat belt fastened, hit the overhead cabin because of a bump. The person suffered injuries. Two more had minor injuries. The inside of a window panel (18-A) came off. The outside window did not break and there was no de-pressursation. Passengers were naturally terrified.”

Another video making the rounds on the internet shows severely shaken passengers frighten and praying.

Adding to the fear, a couple of oxygen masks had also deployed and the overhead panel cover of seat 12-U got cracks. Upon landing in Delhi, all three injured passengers were taken to a hospital.

An official gave the following statement:

“Our emergency response and angels took care of the three injured passengers who were taken to a hospital on landing in Delhi. The passenger whose head hit the overhead panel got stitches. Two passengers suffered minor injuries.

They are all fine and took their connecting flights after getting the first aid. The passenger who got stitches said he felt ok and the doctors said he could travel. Our angels were with him throughout.”

What a horrible experience it must’ve been for the people on board?! If something like this had happened to me, I doubt I’d be able to muster the courage to travel by flight ever again. This incident certainly does not do any favours for Air India’s reputation. We hope the injured passengers make a speedy recovery and get over the physical and mental trauma caused by this accident soon.
