The news of a guy chopping his live-in partner into 35 pieces has shaken the nation to its core. The accused, Aftab Ameen Poonawala, is currently in police custody where he is being interrogated. More grotesque details have been revealed through these interrogations.
But first, here’s a gist of all that has happened. Aftab and the victim, Shraddha Walkar, met via a dating app. Both were located in Mumbai at the time and worked for a call centre. They soon got into a relationship and were together for 3 years. After their families showed no support for their relationship, the two moved to Delhi and started living together. However, they used to fight often.
In May, as their fight escalated, Aftab strangled Shraddha and killed her. He then chopped her body into 35 pieces and stored them inside a fridge. Every night, he used to leave the house at 2 AM with a black polybag containing a few pieces. which he used to throw away in a forest in Mehrauli.

1. Aftab has a sorted social media presence and used to work as a food vlogger for a while.
According to a report by NDTV, Aftab ran an Instagram account where he used to post food-vlogging content. It had 28K followers. On his Facebook account, he portrayed himself to be an LGBTQ+ community ally, a feminist, and an environmental activist, reported Firstpost.
2. It is possible that Aftab rented the apartment in Delhi because he was planning Shraddha’s murder beforehand.
Reports reveal that Aftab and Shraddha visited hill stations in March and April. In May, they travelled to Himachal Pradesh where they met a man who lived in Delhi’s Chhatarpur. After shifting to Delhi, they initially stayed at the man’s flat. A few days before the murder, Aftab rented another flat in Chhatarpur. The murder happened on May 18.
3. After he strangled Shraddha to death, he stored her body in the bathroom.
He then bought a 300-litre fridge from a nearby store to keep the chopped pieces of her body inside. He used to sleep in the same apartment where he killed her and often looked at her chopped head kept inside the fridge.
4. He Google-searched how to clean blood stains from the floor with chemicals and “anatomy” before chopping the body.
The cloths he used to clean the stains with were later discarded. Before the murder, he watched several crime series and movies, including ‘Dexter’.
5. To cover up for Shraddha’s murder, he spoke to her friends via her Instagram account.
But her friends grew suspicious after they found her phone was switched off for over 2 months.
6. After only 15-20 days of allegedly killing Shraddha, Aftab started dating another woman.
He even brought her home while the dead body’s pieces were inside the apartment. However, he allegedly moved the pieces from the fridge to the cupboard.
