Celebrated Actor Shashikala Passes Away At 88, Celebs Share Heartfelt Condolences

Veteran Bollywood actor Shashikala Om Prakash Saigal (better known by her first name) passed away at her residence yesterday. The 88-year-old made her debut in the 1945 movie ‘Zeenat’ and went on to work in over 100 films in her lifetime. Some of her most memorable roles were in movies like ‘Sujata’, ‘Aarti’, ‘Anupama’ and ‘Ayi Milan Ke Bela’.

More recently, she was seen in supporting roles in movies like ‘Baadshah’, ‘Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham’, ‘Jhankaar Beats’, and ‘Mujhse Shaadi Karogi’. According to TOI, she also essayed the role of Frooty’s daadi in the TV show ‘Sonpari’. In 2007, she was awarded the Padma Shri for her contribution to the world of cinema.

Priyanka Chopra Jonas, Dharmendra Deol, Adnan Sami, Farhan Akhtar, Lata Mangeshkar, and Naved Jafri expressed their condolences on her demise.
