I Went On 5 Dates In One week And This Is What I Realised…

This is the era of online dating, what with the number of dating apps that are available. When I shifted to Pune for my new job, I decided to finally give in to my curiosity and try online dating. I was surprised to find that there were a ton of apps available. I short-listed two of those and went ahead and created my profile.

The app searched people based on my location, most of them being engineers. Well, that was perfect for me. I matched with several people and was asked out by half of them. I was a bit apprehensive at first but my adventurous spirit took over and I decided to meet them.

And here’s what happened:

Date no. 1: The Guy with the Muscles

The Guy with the Muscles picked me up on his bike and asked me if I was comfortable before taking off. We had decided to go to an Italian restaurant, but it had a 45 minute waiting period so we hunted for a different place. We found this cute little place and settled down for dinner. I laughed at his stories over a plate of pasta. He told me about his love for football and sports in general and I told him about my favourite books.

He paid for the dinner even though I insisted on going Dutch.

After the date, I picked up some food for my roommate and before dropping me off to my place, he insisted on spending some more time. It was already late, so I politely refused and he didn’t mind. The date went okay but I didn’t want to meet him again and I told him that the next day. He asked for the reason and then respected my decision.

Date no. 2: The Guy with the Beard

The Guy with the Beard picked me up near my society. We went to a coffee shop. And then we started talking; and we talked non-stop for two whole hours. He was from Pune and had the cutest smile I’d ever seen. He was pursuing masters in design and was an amazing artist. He also played the guitar and loved watching movies.

I almost felt like I’d found the one.

Except, he was about to leave Pune for his college the very next day. But the date was fun and so I didn’t mind.

This guy also insisted on paying for the coffee; I must say, Pune is high on chivalry! He was sweet enough to help me pick up a mattress for my roommate. When we reached under my building, I gave him a quick peck on the cheek and he thanked me for it! (Later I teased him a lot about that!) It was one of the most amazing dates I’d been on.

Date no. 3: The Guy with the Hot Body

The Guy with the Hot Body picked me up in his car at a chowk nearby. We went to a local club where we were joined by his colleague and his girlfriend. This was my first time in a club in Pune and I was excited like a teenager. The music at that place was amazing. We danced and laughed quite hard. The jokes had me spilling the wine over my dress. We discussed our lives over a plate of chicken nuggets and fries.

The guy’s colleague and girlfriend were sweet enough to ask me to join them for a party the next day. I had some work, so I had to decline. The guy paid the bill (again) and then we left. We chatted a bit more on our way to my place. After a while, I fell silent. I was feeling a bit homesick and he somehow realised that.

So at the end of the date, the guy gave me a bear hug which made me feel at home in Pune.

Date no. 4: The Guy with the Dimples

The Guy with the Dimples was a fellow Maharastrian. We bonded over our mutual love for our mother-tongue. For our date, we went for ice-cream. This time I was ready with the change in my hand and this was the first date where the guy let me pay for him. It felt extremely good to do that. We were done with our ice-cream pretty soon. We headed to a small cafe to chat some more.

He was an avid trekker. And his eyes shone when he talked about it. I asked him to take me on a trek the next weekend and he agreed quite readily. We ordered some adrak chai and talked some more whilst slyly checking each other out. The eye contact left me blushing.

When he dropped me off at my place I realised I’d made a new friend.

Date no. 5: The Guy with the Spiky Hair

The Guy with the Spiky Hair was late for our movie date. So he sped through the highway (with me riding pillion) towards the movie theatre on the bike. The light rain and the wind in my hair was incredible. We reached for the movie on time. We settled down on our seats with a popcorn to share. I’m used to eating popcorn like a caveman and so it was quite difficult to eat in a civilised manner.  When I told him that, he guffawed like a pig and I knew I’d met my new favourite person.

The movie was so very boring that we left it after the interval. And then we hogged on dahi puri and chocolate waffles. It was yummy, to say the least. After that, he took me for a long ride down the highway. I was having an amazing time on the bike.

He dropped me off near my place and when I gave him a peck on the cheek, he said thank you (again!).

I came home drenched in rain with a huge smile plastered on my face.

So this was the story of my 5 dates. After going on these dates, I realised that not all guys have the stalker vibe; they can be sweet and chivalrous and really nice people.
