Hostel life can bring the worst out of people in terms of hygiene. Not taking baths, wearing the same underwear for days, using deodorant as a substitute for a shower and whatnot.
A Karnataka student went an impressive 33 days without taking a bath and shared his whole experience in a Reddit Ask Me Anything (AMA) for all the curious souls online.
He answered some interesting questions, and if you have a faint heart for disgusting things, proceed with caution!
1. Why did you do it?
Well, I live in a hostel and am lazy.
You see, a bath for me is more like a chore here. Since the shower only spews cold water in an incredibly narrow column, I have to fill bucket(s) of hot water from a faucet outside the room. I also tend to think “I might as well wash some clothes while I’m bathing” since I could save some laundry money while doing so. It seems like too much work.
2. 33 days must have meant a lot of bad odour! How did he deal with that?
I soaped my pits every 3-4 days or so. Baking soda and hand sanitizer cat as excellent anti-BO agents. they can keep me BO-free for about 6-7 hours. Couple that with deodorant, and was good to go for the entire day.
3. Did you jerk off during that time? If it is a yes, then how did you manage to clean it without bathing?
I am a nofap champion.
4. Did you feel anything crawling on your skin or itching, also what about oily hair?
There was a little itching on some parts like elbow region. What I noticed more was the increased friction on my skin from all the oil and muck. I was basically covered in a layer of dirt.
About the oily hair, I did wash my hair around the day 18 mark, but I did have a lot of dandruff which I got rid of quite a bit by combing regularly.
5. You live in coastal Southern Karnataka and didn’t take a bath for so long? (the weather is so humid that people take bath twice a day with cold water.)
I guess that’s what makes this AMA special.
6. What motivated you to bathe yourself on the 34th day?
I was living in a hostel and went back home on day 34.
7. How did your parents take it when you told them?
When I went back home, my mom refused to speak to me until I had a haircut and showered.
8. And how did he feel after finally taking a bath on the 34th day?
When I came out, my skin was a shade or two lighter.
While scrubbing all over with a new pumice stone I had, I saw there was a layer of dirt in some parts which was millimeters thick.
You actually feel a little lighter. Your skin is more sensitive than usual. Things that touch you feel a bit stronger.
Now, if you will excuse me, I need to take a shower right now to feel a bit better!
