3 Delhi Women Pen FB Post Calling Out Men Who ‘Verbally Raped’ Them In A Restaurant

Despite the #MeToo movement and its aftermath of stricter laws regarding crimes against women, cases of sexual harrassment refuse to cease. Adding to the long list of sexual harassment against women in the capital, a horrifying case has recently come to light.

Three women were reportedly dining out at a restaurant in South Delhi’s GK 2 at 10 pm on September 21. The women were allegedly harassed by a group of men seated at a nearby table in the restaurant. Calling it a ‘verbal rape’, one of the three women shared her ordeal in a Facebook post, reports TOI.

The woman wrote,

“Two men sat behind our table and one of them rested his arm on my chair. I moved my chair as his arm was very close to her (the woman’s friend) head. At doing this, the other man sitting with him pushed my chair very aggressively, to which I went flying ahead.”

The women further mentioned that the situation worsened within no time owing to the man’s rowdy behavior.

“We got up immediately to correct him, as to why and how could he push someone’s chair? To which started yelling on top of his voice. He turned around said a couple of things back and forth and the most obscene and obnoxious thing by spreading his legs and sitting inappropriately on the chair, pointing to his male part, said the following: ‘come and B*** me, f*** you’. And soon after, he lifted his right leg and put it up towards my face and stated ‘Lick my foot, you look like my maid and you all are south Delhi aunties’. This incident shook us immensely, to which the manager sent them to the first floor of the restaurant to calm him down,” she wrote.

Sharing her ordeal, the woman wrote that no man in the entire restaurant stood up to help them.

“Not one man had the balls to get up and even ask us as to what happened, they all sat calmly and watched the show, except for 2 girls next to our table who supported us. And we call ourselves an educated city!!!”

The woman further added,

“Would the Indian women leave and run home post the incident or have the strength to Stand up!!! It was nothing but Verbal Rape!”

The women then stormed to a nearby police station to lodge an FIR against the men. “We were left shaken, shocked and appalled. We spent three hours at the police station trying to get an FIR lodged,” one of the women alleged.

Deputy commissioner of police (South) Atul Kumar Thakur said, “We have registered a case under sections 354 (molestation) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code. The accused will be nabbed soon.

About the alleged delay in filing the FIR, the DCP said, “The women reached the police station and their complaint was immediately registered.”

We hope the accused are soon caught and brought to justice by the law. More power to the women who mustered up the courage to raise their voice against the crime on social media.
