Woman Loses Her Baby As 3 Nurses In Odisha Try To Pull A ‘3 Idiots’ Delivery Scene

People jumped for joy when Aamir Khan as Rancho in ‘3 idiots’ delivered his girlfriend’s sister’s baby using just a vacuum cleaner over a video call with Piya. But few of us would even try to imitate a scene from a movie to recreate the same effect in such a sensitive situation.

Apparently, three nurses in Odisha did not think so when they tried to perform a cesarean on a woman in the absence of a doctor, which led to a fatal result.

The incident occurred in Sai Hospital, in Kendrapada district, Odisha when a pregnant woman Aarti Samal arrived in the hospital for her delivery with her husband Kalpatru Samal.

As reported by India Today, Dr. Rashmikant Patra who was supposed to attend to the woman was not present in the hospital and the nurses tried to perform a cesarean while coordinating with the doctor over the phone.

The sensitive situation got quickly out of hand and the couple lost their first baby due to the negligence of the hospital authorities. Not only that, the woman’s uterus was also damaged because of this “experiment”.

Aarti’s husband Kalpatru Samal, took the dead body of his newborn and filed an FIR in Kendrapada Town police station. He said,

“When we contacted Dr Rashmikant Patra, he asked us to get her admitted in the hospital. He informed us that he is not present in the hospital but will coordinate with the nurses for proper care once we get her admitted in the hospital. He did not arrive even when the condition of my wife got critical. I don’t know who did it but my wife was operated upon and we lost our first baby. My wife’s uterus is also damaged. The nurses said that they had coordinated with the doctor over the phone and had given their 100 per cent. It is only because of their negligence of the hospital authority”

A case of negligence has been registered against the doctor and the police are conducting further investigation into the matter.

While ideas shown on the silver screen or even on TV for that matter, might seem fetching and foolproof in theory, it is hardly the same in its practical application. Discretion while dealing with such sensitive issues should be maintained, keeping reel life separate from reality.
