I remember how every time when I reached a higher class in school, my playtime used to be cut short because of a lot of homework and studying to do.
But just after a decade later I can say that times have changed! Now teenagers can fire up their computers, play videogames for hours, and, if they are lucky, even make a living out of it. Sounds crazy but it’s true!
14-year old Griffin Spikoski from Long Island is quite the “athlete” gaming enthusiasts dream of becoming.
We all want to earn money by doing something we love. And Griffin is doing exactly that: earning the big bucks playing the popular online videogame ‘Fortnite’.
Known in the online world as Sceptic, he is a professional athlete with Misfits Gaming and has till now made $200,000 (1.38 crore INR approx) playing the game!
He admits to playing the game for 8 hours on weekdays and about a crazy 18 hours on weekends!
When ABC News asked if he thinks he should cut back on the game-time he said, “It’s kind of like my job”.
Griffin’s online fame started when a few months back he uploaded a video on YouTube which showed him beating a popular Fortnite gamer, gathering 7.5 million views!
Since then he has been making his earnings through YouTube subscribers and advertisers.
He has saved up all his earnings as a backup in case his gaming career doesn’t work out, for college, or for a new house!
“I want parents to know that, you know, if their kids do enjoy playing games and they have a passion for it and they’re really good at it, they should treat it as any other sport,” Griffin said.
